Greenview contributed to developing the GTPI Plastics Measurement Methodology for Accommodation Providers, providing technical assistance through its collaboration with the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance. The Global Tourism Plastics Initiative (GTPI) is a joint effort launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF).
The methodology establishes a consistent framework for hotels to measure, report, and reduce plastic use across their operations. It provides standardized guidelines to:
- Measure plastic use
- Prioritize reducing unnecessary plastic items
- Improve reporting accuracy
- Set measurable reduction goals
To support implementation, Greenview also developed practical Excel tools and a reporting template for GTPI signatories:
- The Property Tool enables individual hotels to identify plastic items, quantify usage, and calculate performance metrics.
- The Portfolio Tool consolidates data from multiple properties, producing portfolio-level metrics for each reporting cycle.
By establishing clear metrics, organizational boundaries, and data collection processes, the methodology and tools enable accountability and transparent communication of progress across the sector.
