Greenview has conducted extensive research on the carbon footprint of the hotel industry worldwide and its progress toward science-based decarbonization pathways based on global climate action goals.
We were commissioned by the Tourism Panel On Climate Change, an independent science-based international collaboration launched by the Sustainable Tourism Global Center (STGC), to study the industry’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions between 2017 and 2022. The study revealed that, while emissions intensity has fallen, continued industry growth will require accelerated decarbonization in the latter half of the decade to remain on track with global commitments.
On behalf of the International Tourism Partnership and its 23 members representing hotel chains globally, Greenview also published the 2017 Hotel Global Decarbonization Report quantifying the hotel industry’s global carbon footprint and water use, and outlined the reductions required under the two-degree scenario using the Sectoral Decarbonization Approach. The work remains a foundational reference for understanding long-term decarbonization pathways in the hotel sector.
