In 2009, the City of Orlando bid to host the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild Conference, but the bid was declined as the city was not seen as a sustainable destination. This wake-up call inspired a grassroots collective of local organizations, including hotels, attractions, venues, academic institutions, and civic committees, to form Green Destination Orlando (GDO). The GDO aimed to improve and tell the story of Orlando’s sustainability journey.
Together with GDO, Greenview developed Orlando’s first Destination Sustainability Report (2016). The report mapped the visitor experience from planning to departure, showcasing the environmental and social initiatives that positioned Orlando as an emerging leader in sustainable tourism.
