UFI is a global association representing the exhibition industry. Founded in 1925, it sets global standards, drives collaboration and fosters innovation across the innovation.
Greenview authored the Best Practices in Sustainability report for UFI, first published in 2016, which highlights winning and shortlisted entries from UFI’s Sustainability Awards since their launch in 2012. The report showcases 41 case studies from 19 countries, covering six key themes: strategy, reporting, environmental initiatives, measurement tools, cost-saving innovations across the value chain, and participant engagement.

Building on this foundation, Greenview produced a second edition of the report, capturing the collective achievements of award recipients from 2017 to 2020. This compendium reflects the industry’s evolving leadership in sustainability and sets the stage for the next decade of innovation and progress in advancing sustainable development across the global exhibition sector.

Greenview partnered with UFI to evaluate the exhibition industry’s contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Initiated by the UFI Working Group on Sustainable Development, of which Greenview is a member, the project translated the SDGs into actionable reporting and benchmarking guidance for the exhibitions sector. The initiative produced a database of projects and best-practice case studies, helping organizers, venues, and service providers align their operations with global sustainability objectives. The work culminated in the 2019 report The Exhibition Industry and the UN SDGs.
In the exhibition industry, large volumes of waste – including packaging materials, wood, booth structures, food waste, and paper – are generated during events due to the temporary and fast-paced nature of operations. Greenview coordinated the UFI Waste Management Working Group, bringing together industry stakeholders through interviews and workshops to exchange best practices and identify common challenges in event waste management. The findings and practical solutions were compiled in the report Waste Management in the Exhibition Industry, published in 2020.
